Niyama: Santosha

This niyama is about staying steady during ups and downs, challenging us to be grounded in the good even as difficult situations arise.  It’s human nature to look for the tiny negative things and pick at them — for us to be alert for problems.  But how can we honor our true nature, and know that deep down everything is okay? What practices can we have in our lives to continuously find calm?  Can we find ways to take needed action from a state of contentment as opposed to an agitated or fearful state?

HeartOfYogatheyogasutrasThe niyamas are the second limb of yoga, found in a text called The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.  The translation that I used was from T.K.V. Desikachar in his book The Heart of Yoga.  Tons of great sources are available online  on the second limb of yoga
